Mcdonald’s

50 Years of Being Golden

TARGET: the NBMOA (National Black MCDonald’s Owners and Operators Association) Members

Since 1972, McDonald’s & the NBMOA have been fiercely advocating for African Americans to own franchises, build businesses, and economically invest in their communities. McDonald’s wanted to honor the 50th anniversary of their partnership. So, my copywriting partner and I created a1972 retro-inspired campaign that highlights the organization’s cultural impact over the last 50 years, while casting a spotlight on the generations of African American business pioneers that comprise the NBMOA.

I illustrated & designed a poster series featuring men and women of NBMOA, that was inspired by vintage tricolored screen printing methods from the 70’s, with a funky, typographic treatment that I drew on top. My partner and I also made a spoken-word radio spot that was inspired by African American 70’s beat poets (like Gill Scott-Heron). We also created a vintage-inspired video montage (in the same artistic style of the poster work), featuring Burrell’s creative campaign work with McDonald’s through the last 50 years.
